In an effort to support our farmers with the implementation of the Water Resources Management Act 13 of 2011, promulgated on 29 August 2023, we herewith repeat an overview of the most important documents required to register boreholes across the country.
WA03 is the APPLICATION FOR LICENSE TO ABSTRACT AND USE WATER and must be completed if the borehole is registered and not used for domestic use. According to the Ministry, if animals drink water for commercial use, it is no longer domestic use. The definition of "domestic" is currently a grey area in the legislation and the Ministry is looking into it and will most likely redefine it.
WA04 is the APPLICATION FOR BOREHOLE LICENSE and must be completed for all boreholes to be registered.
The BOREHOLE DATA COLLECTION SHEET was sent out by the Ministry to indicate all boreholes on a farm, so that the Ministry can ensure that their record keeping is correct. The completed form also provides landowners with an overview of all their boreholes.
If a person already has existing and registered boreholes, the completion of the BOREHOLE COMPLETION REPORT does not apply.
If a landowner is not in possession of a registration number for a borehole and doubts whether the borehole has already been registered, the DATA REQUEST - GEOHYDROLOGY must be completed and forwarded to Sakeus Ihemba at the Ministry ([email protected]). The Ministry will then let you know if there is a registration number for the relevant borehole/holes.
All registrations must be submitted prior to the end of February 2025. We recommend that borehole registrations are done as soon as possible to avoid bottlenecks.
